Modern clinical acupuncture at AristoClinic bridges ancient technique and current neuroscience. We use ultra-fine needles to reset pain signals, boost circulation, and unlock tight muscle tissue — giving your body the internal environment it needs to heal.
What Is Acupuncture?
Ancient technique. Modern science. Measurable results.
How It Works
Three physiological effects. One powerful treatment.
Each acupuncture session at AristoClinic is designed to trigger three distinct healing responses in your body — simultaneously. Understanding these helps explain why acupuncture works for conditions that don't respond well to isolated physical therapy.
01
Neurological Regulation
Needling specific nerve pathways calms your "fight or flight" stress response, interrupts chronic pain signals before they reach the brain, and resets the neuromuscular communication patterns that keep tight muscles locked in spasm. This is the mechanism behind acupuncture's effectiveness for sciatica, migraines, and long-standing tension pain.
02
Circulatory Boost
Needle insertion creates a local vascular response that increases blood flow to the surrounding tissue. More blood means more oxygen, more nutrients, and faster clearance of the inflammatory by-products that cause lingering pain after injury. This circulatory effect is why acupuncture accelerates healing in tendons, ligaments, and other poorly vascularized structures.
03
Musculoskeletal Release
By targeting trigger points — hyperirritable knots within muscle bands — acupuncture forces chronically contracted tissue to finally relax. A single well-placed needle can release a trigger point that months of stretching and massage haven't been able to shift. This is the mechanism behind dry needling for deep muscle pain and repetitive strain.
Conditions we treat
Pain that lingers. We understand why.

Who we help
If conventional treatment hasn't been enough, acupuncture may be the missing piece.
Acupuncture at AristoClinic treats a wide spectrum of patients — from athletes managing a training injury to desk workers managing burnout. Here are the patient profiles we see most often.
The Chronic Pain Patient
You've tried physiotherapy, massage, and maybe even medication. The pain comes back. Acupuncture addresses the neurological component of chronic pain — the sensitized nervous system — that purely mechanical treatments don't reach.
The Active Adult & Athlete
Training-related injuries, tendonitis, and overuse conditions respond exceptionally well to dry needling and cupping. Many athletes also use monthly acupuncture to maintain optimal neuromuscular function and accelerate recovery between sessions.
The Modern Professional
Chronic tension headaches, neck and shoulder pain from desk work, stress-related insomnia, and burnout are the occupational hazards of today's workplace. Acupuncture directly targets both the structural and nervous system contributors to these presentations.
The Prenatal & Postnatal Patient
Acupuncture is safe and effective throughout pregnancy for managing back pain, pelvic discomfort, nausea, fatigue, and anxiety — without the limitations that restrict pharmaceutical approaches during this period.
The Senior Managing Arthritis or Neuropathy
Acupuncture has a strong evidence base for osteoarthritis pain management and peripheral neuropathy — conditions where the options are often limited to pain medication. It provides meaningful relief without side effects or drug interactions.
The Stress-Burdened Patient
Chronic stress has measurable physical effects — elevated cortisol, disrupted sleep, muscle tension, impaired healing. A course of acupuncture activates the parasympathetic nervous system and creates the internal conditions your body needs to rest, repair, and recover.

Your Questions, Answered
Does acupuncture hurt?
Most patients find the experience incredibly relaxing. Acupuncture needles are ultra-fine—about the width of a hair. You may feel a tiny "pinch" upon insertion or a dull, heavy sensation once the point is activated, but most patients fall into a deep relaxation or even a light sleep during their session.
Do I need a doctor’s note?
No referral is needed to book at Aristo Clinic. However, because insurance companies vary, we recommend checking if your specific plan requires a doctor’s note for "Acupuncture" specifically to ensure your reimbursement is processed smoothly.
What should I expect during my first visit?
Your first visit is a deep dive into your health. We’ll spend the first 15 minutes mapping out your symptoms and testing your range of motion. The rest of the hour is dedicated to your first clinical acupuncture treatment. You won't just leave with a plan; you'll leave having already started the healing process.
Is it covered by insurance?
Yes! Because our treatments are performed by a Licensed Chiropractor or a Registered Acupuncturist, they are covered under most Extended Health Care (EHC) plans. We provide detailed receipts or can often bill your provider directly.
Can I get acupuncture and massage on the same day?
Absolutely! In fact, many of our North York athletes find that having acupuncture before a massage helps the RMT reach deeper muscle layers more easily, while having it after a physio session can help "calm" the area and prevent post-treatment soreness.
How many sessions will I need?
For acute pain, you might feel a significant difference in 1–3 sessions. For chronic conditions or stress management, a series of 6–10 treatments is often recommended to create a lasting shift in your body's health.
