Do I need a doctor’s note for orthotics?
No. In Ontario, you can book an appointment with our chiropodist directly. However, we recommend checking with your insurance provider, as some extended health plans require a physician’s note to process your reimbursement.
How long does the process take?
Your initial assessment and casting take approximately 60 minutes. Once ordered, your medical-grade orthotics are custom-manufactured and typically arrive at our clinic within 2 to 3 weeks. We then schedule a "Fitting Appointment" to ensure they feel perfect in your shoes.
What should I bring to my assessment?
Please bring the shoes you wear most often (e.g., work shoes, running shoes). It is also helpful to bring any old orthotics or inserts you have used in the past so our clinicians can see how your feet have worn them down.
How long will my orthotics last?
Most custom orthotics provide optimal support for 2 to 3 years. However, the "top cover" may need refurbishing sooner if you are highly active. We recommend a yearly check-up to ensure your foot structure hasn't changed and the orthotics are still doing their job.
Is there a "break-in" period?
Yes. Because we are changing the way your body moves, it’s normal to feel some mild muscle fatigue in your legs during the first week. We provide a "break-in schedule," starting with 1 hour of wear per day and gradually increasing until they feel like a natural part of your step.
Are they covered by my insurance?
Yes, most Extended Health Care (EHC) plans cover a significant portion (often 80–100%) of custom orthotics. While we cannot always direct-bill for orthotics due to insurance regulations, we provide all the high-level clinical documentation you need to get paid back quickly.
