Compression Therapy in North York: Vital Support for Healthy Circulation
Professional Fitting and Medical-Grade Gradient Compression in Don Mills
Do your legs feel heavy, achy, or swollen by the end of the day? At Aristo Clinic, we believe that healthy movement is powered by healthy circulation. Medical compression stockings are specialized garments designed to improve blood flow, reduce leg fatigue, and prevent long-term venous issues. Whether you are an expectant mother, a frequent traveler, or a professional who spends hours on your feet, we provide the clinical expertise needed to find your perfect fit.
The Science of Graduated Compression
Unlike standard socks, medical compression stockings utilize Graduated Compression. This means the pressure is tightest at the ankle and gradually decreases as it moves up the leg. This design creates a "pump" effect that:
Counteracts Gravity: Helping your veins push blood back up toward the heart more efficiently.
Reduces Edema: Preventing fluid from pooling in your ankles and feet, which causes painful swelling.
Protects Vein Health: Supporting the walls of your veins to prevent them from stretching and becoming varicose or spider veins.
Who Benefits from Compression Therapy?
Our clinicians provide custom-fitted solutions for a wide range of lifestyle and medical needs:
The Modern Professional: Essential for those who sit or stand for long periods at work (nurses, teachers, office workers).
Expectant Mothers: Reducing pregnancy-related swelling and the risk of varicose veins.
Travelers & Athletes: Preventing "Economy Class Syndrome" (DVT) during long flights and aiding in muscle recovery after intense training.
Clinical Recovery: Managing post-surgical swelling, lymphedema, or chronic venous insufficiency.
Why Aristo Compression Therapy is Unique in North York
Clinical Assessment vs. Retail Guesswork
You don't just "pick a size" at Aristo. A compression garment is a medical device; if it’s too tight, it can be dangerous, and if it's too loose, it’s ineffective. Our clinicians perform a professional assessment of your circulation and take precise anatomical measurements to ensure your stockings provide the exact "mmHg" (pressure level) your body requires.
The "Healthy Legs" Integrated Approach
At Aristo, we look at the big picture. If you have leg swelling, our Osteopath can check your lymphatic drainage, and our Physiotherapist can provide exercises to improve your "calf pump" mechanics. We combine compression products with clinical care for the best possible results.
Know the Difference: Compression vs. Diabetic Socks
Many patients are unsure which they need. At Aristo, we provide both. While Compression Stockings apply controlled pressure to improve flow, Diabetic Socks are non-restrictive and designed specifically to prevent friction and protect sensitive skin from ulcers. We help you choose the right tool for your specific health profile.
Insurance-Ready Documentation
Most insurance providers require specific details to reimburse compression garments. We provide a full clinical package, including your limb measurements, the compression grade (e.g., 20-30 mmHg), and the clinician’s registration numbers to ensure your claim is accepted.

FAQ
Your Questions, Answered
Here are answers to the questions we hear most often from patients just like you.
Do I need a doctor’s note for compression stockings?
While you can be measured and fitted at Aristo Clinic without a referral, most insurance companies require a prescription from a physician or nurse practitioner to reimburse the cost. The note should include a medical diagnosis (like "Edema" or "Varicose Veins") and the required pressure level.
What happens during the fitting appointment?
We recommend booking your fitting for the morning, when your legs have the least amount of swelling. Our clinician will take precise measurements of your ankle, calf, and thigh circumference. We prioritize your health, so we provide education on "donning and doffing" (putting them on and taking them off) during your first visit.
How long do the stockings last?
Medical-grade stockings are made of high-tech elastic fibers that eventually stretch out. To maintain the correct medical pressure, we recommend replacing your stockings every 6 months.
Can I just wear them during the day?
Yes. In almost all cases, compression stockings are meant to be worn during your active hours (while sitting, standing, or walking) and taken off before you go to sleep at night.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Wear clothing that allows easy access to your legs (like shorts or loose-fitting pants). It is also helpful to bring your insurance booklet or a copy of your doctor's prescription if you already have one.
Is it covered by insurance?
Yes! Most Extended Health Care (EHC) plans cover 2 to 4 pairs of medical compression stockings per year. Because they are dispensed by our regulated clinicians at Aristo Clinic, they qualify for reimbursement under most medical benefit plans.
